Apple's Old-School SuperDrive Is Out of Stock and Unlikely to Return

Apple seems to be discontinuing its SuperDrive CD reader

As noted by one of our readers, it’s no longer possible to buy an Apple USB SuperDrive from Apple’s website. The product page has been updated to reflect that the device is “Currently unavailable.” A quick search on Amazon reveals that the product is also out of stock there, with no indication of when it will be back in stock.

The USB SuperDrive is one of Apple’s longest-selling devices. It was first introduced in 1998, and it has been updated several times over the years. The current model was released in 2012, and it supports both USB-A and USB-C connections.

The SuperDrive is a popular device for people who need to read or write CDs or DVDs. It’s also a useful device for people who want to create bootable USB drives.

It’s not clear why Apple has decided to discontinue the SuperDrive. The company has not made any official announcement, but it’s possible that the decision is due to declining sales. With the advent of streaming services, fewer and fewer people are using CDs or DVDs.

If you’re looking for a SuperDrive, you may still be able to find one in stock at a third-party retailer. However, it’s likely that the price will be higher than it was when the product was available from Apple.
