Amanda Righetti on Her Career, 'Reagan,' and 'Surreal' 'O.C.' Memories (Exclusive)

'Reagan' star reflects on her 20-year career

Amanda Righetti is reflecting on her 20-year career in the entertainment industry, from her breakout role on The O.C. to her latest role as Nancy Reagan in the upcoming Showtime series Reagan.

From 'The O.C.' to 'Reagan'

Righetti's breakthrough came in 2003 when she was cast as Hailey Nichol on the hit teen drama The O.C. "It was a surreal experience," Righetti tells PEOPLE. "I had just graduated from college and had no idea what I was doing. I was just this young girl from St. George, Utah, and all of a sudden I was on this huge show." She reflects on the experience as a time of great learning and growth, both personally and professionally.

Righetti has since starred in a number of films and television shows, including Friday the 13th (2009), Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), and The Mentalist (2008-2015).

In her latest role, she plays Nancy Reagan in the upcoming Showtime series Reagan, which premieres on February 18th. "It was an honor to be able to play such an iconic woman," Righetti says of the role. "She's always been someone I've admired." Righetti says she spent months researching Nancy Reagan's life and legacy in preparation for the role.

On Turning 40

Righetti recently turned 40, and reflects on reaching this milestone with gratitude and excitement for what the future will bring. "I'm so grateful for everything I've been able to experience in my life so far," she says. "I'm excited to see what the next chapter holds."

Righetti is married to Jordan Alan, and they have three children together. She is also a passionate advocate for mental health awareness and an active supporter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). She is also a spokesperson for the American Red Cross and has worked extensively with the organization to raise awareness about disaster preparedness.
