Breaking: Elijah Melendez Decommits From Miami

Miami Loses Another Commitment

Melendez Was 3-Star CB

South Florida native and Miami commit, Elijah Melendez, has officially decommitted from the program and is no longer expected to join the Hurricanes in 2024.

This comes after a bevy of other Florida prospects who previously committed to the Hurricanes decommitted in recent months as the program transitioned from Manny Diaz to Mario Cristobal.

Melendez announced his decision on social media, writing, “After much consideration and discussion with my family, I have decided to decommit from the University of Miami. I appreciate the opportunity that Coach [Mario] Cristobal and his staff gave me, but ultimately I believe this is the best decision for me and my future. I wish Miami all the best in the future.”

Melendez had reportedly narrowed his decision down to Miami, Florida, and Georgia Tech, and had been considered a solid commit to the Hurricanes for some time.

However, a recent surge of decommitments from the program, coupled with a lackluster recruiting cycle in general, have led to speculation that Cristobal and his staff could be on the hot seat in Coral Gables

The Hurricanes have now lost six commitments in the 2024 recruiting class, including four from the state of Florida.

Cristobal is expected to hold a press conference on Monday to address the recent decommitments and the state of the program.

Other Miami Commitments Who Have Decommitted:

  • 4-Star EDGE Jayden McGowan
  • 3-Star DL Joshua Josephs
  • 3-Star EDGE Nyjalik Kelly
  • 3-Star OL David Alexander
  • 3-Star OL Tommy Kinsler
